DOG DAY AFTERNOON: PATIOS TO CHECK OUT WITH YOUR POOCH
Is there a better way to welcome warmer weather than sitting out on a patio while enjoying a nice cold drink? Well, yes there is. Bring your dog along! We are fortunate in Victoria to have a few restaurants who like to welcome man’s best friend onto their patios. Read on to find out about our favourites.
For a breakfast treat: Bubby Rose’s Bakery
Bubby Rose’s is a vegetarian bakery located in Fairfield that also has plenty of vegan and gluten-free items on their menu. Staff member Victoria says they have many regular customers who are dog owners that drop by and place their orders from the door. Their patio has plenty of space for your pooch along with a water bowl if he gets thirsty! Drop by, order a savoury croissant and while away the morning with a good book while your dog has a nap under the table.
For a romantic evening: Café Brio.
This Italian-inspired restaurant is a Victoria fixture and has been open on Fort Street for 17 years. Their menu emphasizes local, fresh ingredients, and they even have their own curing room where they make prosciutto and sausages. Dogs are welcome on the fair weather patio, so if you want to go out for a romantic dinner there’s no reason why your best friend can’t come too! Owner Greg recommends ordering the braised beef ribs with a glass of BC red wine.
For an afternoon coffee: Moka House
The Moka House location on Cook Street has a shaded patio that dogs are welcome to sit on. Their patio has a lot of comfortable chairs for humans and ample space, so it’s the perfect spot for a casual meeting or catch-up with friends. Take your dog for a walk in nearby Beacon Hill Park, then unwind on the patio with an iced coffee.
For the catch of the day: Barb’s Fish and Chips
Located at Fisherman’s Wharf, this 30-year-old fish and chips shop constantly wins awards for the best catch in town. Barb’s has plenty of outdoor and tented seating and dogs are warmly welcomed. Manager Nath recommends the Fish & Chips Dinner with battered cod or, for the seafood averse, Barb’s Burger with mushrooms, bacon and cheese. Yum!
